Let’s Light Up!

Lighting plays a major part in interior design and it is essential to know the types of lighting you need for each area in the home.  Different types of lighting creates different results.

Natural

Using windows, skylights to capture the natural light during daytime.  Note the quality of lights are dependent on various factors: weather, the time of day and season of the year.

Ambient

Also known as General Lighting, the light is diffused and completely illuminates a room.

Task

Task lighting provides lighting for a specific area and helps you to perform daily activities such as reading, grooming, preparing and cooking food.  Task lighting should be free of distracting glare and shadows and should be bright enough to prevent eye strain.

Accent

Most dramatic type of lighting, drawing attention to a particular part of the room or object in the room.  Usually requires as least three times as much light on the focal point as the general lighting surrounding it.
